- Responsible for ensuring the analytical methods / specifications used are in accordance with requirements specified in MSD Quality Standards, regulatory dossiers and pharmacopoeia.
- Manage the calibration, maintenance and qualification of laboratory equipment.
- Conduct laboratory investigation on laboratory equipment failure, OOT and OOS.
- Responsible for testing of developmental and clinical products as required.
- Participate in analytical developmental activities as required.

Responsibilities

- Perform analytical testing on incoming raw materials, packaging components and excipients.
- Carry out testing activities associated with release and stability testing of the in-process control samples, intermediates, semi-finished products, final drug substances & finished products.
- Ensure tests assigned are performed in a timely manner in compliance to Standard Operating procedures with necessary laboratory safety precautions.
- Carry out cleaning sample testing related to any equipment or facility cleaning activities.
- Co-ordinate with respective IPT facilities on the timing of drug substances change-over.
- Perform second person verification of other analysts’ work.
- Liaise and coordinate with external service providers in carrying out calibration/maintenance of lab equipment and tools when necessary.
- Carry out lab equipment calibration and proper documentation of all instruments in laboratories.
- Closely work with supervisor on the requirements of swabbing samples and to identify the appropriate sampling location and take swab samples for testing.
- Participate in analytical method transfer / validation and equipment Qualifications when necessary.
- Perform periodic reviews of existing cleaning method validation package & procedure, and to implement corrective actions for the periodic reviews.
- Assist in writing protocol to support method transfer/validation, compendial method verification and equipment qualifications when necessary.
- Conduct in Laboratory investigation using 5 whys & fishbone to identify the root cause and its report writing. Ensure laboratory related actions are effectively implemented within agreed time frame, to continually improve processes, prevent waste, and eliminate rework.

Qualifications

The position

Qualifications

Education:

- Required: M.S. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry

Required Experience:

*
Minimum of (5) years Pharmaceutical industry Synthetic Organic Chemistry experience in Drug Discovery

*
Rigorous scientific thinking and a proven track record of driving the advancement of Drug Discovery programs

*
Independent synthetic route design and expertise in the multi-step synthesis of small molecules or natural products

*
Expertise on other types of chemistries such as peptides, carbohydrates, nucleotides or payloads and linkers for conjugates

*
Effective written and oral communication skills

*
Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals

We are currently recruiting for Chemical Engineers for our Research & Development and API Integrated Product Team (IPT) Departments in Ballydine.
In this exciting and challenging role the successful candidate will provide technical support for production across various API facilities on site. These are exciting and challenging opportunities to work on multiple projects, ranging from manufacturing support activities, to late stage clinical product development and scale-up, new product introductions and technology transfers.
You will work as part of the technical group along with a high performing team of engineers and chemists to develop a deep understanding of the processes, to optimise, troubleshoot and develop processes in line with the business strategy to ensure the highest quality of product is manufactured in the API facilities.

The role will involve:
• Direct ownership of manufacturing process equipment and supply product processes.
• Process and equipment optimisation in order to sustain and improve product quality, yields and throughput. Making recommendations and implementing measures to improve production systems, equipment performance, yields and quality of product.
• Interfacing with new product development groups to integrate new products into the Ballydine facility either as new process development entities or as product transfer from another manufacturing facility. Supporting migration of process knowledge for product technical transfers from facility.
• Execution of process development on existing products or new late stage clinical products including scale up to plant equipment.
• Identifying continuous improvement activities and leading or participating in cross-functional teams to implement. Supporting activities in the areas of cost reduction, process efficiency and operational excellence.
• Providing on-the-floor technical support to the Production Team Leaders for process/equipment optimization and troubleshooting.
• Responsible for all process and cleaning recipe management and documentation preparations. Provide technical support to production and cleaning campaigns.
• Leading the facility preparations in support of cleaning and turnaround.
• Ensuring that all safety, quality and environmental compliance goals are achieved, including thoroughly investigating deviations and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are identified and implemented in full.
